Sri Lanka Day 10 (Thu)

Another day and another building to paint.  You could almost hear the team groan as we turned up to Dodunduwa Pre School. The building itself was in a good state of repair and even the previous paint job looked reasonably good, though it was a combination of different strong colours and our request was to cover it with white – inside and out. This was going to be two coat job and we had two days to do it in. The day was hot too, even the Sri Lankan's said it was hot the sweat was dripping off us even sitting still. Some of the team were also suffering from spending too long in the sun the day before.  They were warned about the strength of the tropical sun but sometimes teenagers just know best!

Still once we got started we moved on with a pace such that most if not all of the white was done at the end of day.  So just the green (outside) and blue (inside) borders to do tomorrow.

Lunch was good today cooked for us by the teacher's wife.  Potatoes & onions, daal, chicken curry and rice - Excellent.  Certainly made up for our evening meal. Some of the team were keen to try a particular restaurant so off we trotted at the back of 7.  Drinks ordered the waiter came for the food order but informed us, "No pizza, no roast".  There was at least four on pizza and one on roast chicken and add to that that the chocolate milk shakes tasted odd – it tasted fine by me but was possibly buffalo milk as opposed to cow's milk.  So yes we paid for our drinks and headed for another restaurant - the first time I have done that! This all in Sri Lanka time there is never any great rush.  The final irony came with the pizza order they all arrived slightly well fired.  One so black we had to send it back.

So it is one more day of labour, one more sleep in Sri Lanka and fitful doze on the plane and we will be back on Scottish soil.  Our time has sped by.
