NZ Day 13 – Thursday 29th September

Bright start to the day bus into town and an availability session at Sky city this morning.  I chose just the right spot as well and was able to catch up with quite a few of the lads, which was good.  In the afternoon I was invited out to St Kentigern School for their assembly.  I thought I was going to be interviewed but that didn’t happen. The star of the show was Cammy Mather (ex Glasgow &Scotland player) an old boy of the school. He was being presented with an award as being a old boy achiever.  I was introduced as the chaplain to the Scotland squad got asked to give a blessing. As honoured guests we stood to face the from the school’s kata haka group.  They may only have been primary school children but they put heart and soul in to it.  Some of the facial expressions were amazing and it was quite something to stand before it.   It is a school which reminded very much of my time at St Mary’s in Nairobi.  I think it was the spacious setting the occasional colonial era building and the warm weather that did it.  Their new gym is a fantastic facility all for a primary school. Taken out for lunch after thankfully I wasn’t paying as it was perhaps the most expensive fare I have had since arriving here.  Ride in town after with Cammy and talked a bit about rugby back home.
