NZ Day 18 – Tuesday 4th October

A fine day so I caught up on housekeeping and got a wash through and hung up to dry in the warm Auckland spring sunshine.  Then to Mt Eden shops for a spot of lunch and as a jumping off point to climb Mt Eden.  Hardly a mountain but still a stiff walk up.  Mt Eden is one of Auckland’s 53 volcanoes, all of which may be dormant but none of them are extinct. Size wise Mt Eden is more like the Castle Rock in Edinburgh or that of Stirling Castle.  The difference is it has a deep crater on its top.  That was a surprise to me as I rounded up to the summit.  Great views over Auckland and at a fraction of the cost of the Sky Tower! Took a different route down to make a circular walk.  It was just what I needed to reflect on last night’s meeting.  That question “why?” is still ringing in my ears and “redeeming community” is bouncing around in my head.  I think those two themes in particular will be with me for a while.
